In the first three project years of the sustainable energy engineering zafh.net research network, the main sustainable building energy technology projects were successful: building acclimatisation and air-conditioning units with passive and active regenerative technologies as well as the development of an integrated building information management, control and simulation system in order to optimize energy flow and loads.
Furthermore, a small-scale diffusion-absorption chiller prototype was built and optimized, which proved to be an example of an especially innovative technical solution. As a part of the development of the building information and energy management system, concepts and software structures were worked on with the goal of integrating simulation modules and control algorithms into one tool. All of the possibilities available for internet-based, simulations that are run along side the system operation were demonstrated with the absorption chiller prototype. A demonstration system at Technikum (University of Applied Sciences in Biberach), solar technology and the use of geothermal energy are all things that were developed over the course of this project for the purpose of testing both hardware and software solutions in real technical facilities.
